Troubleshooting

A new string isn't in the inbox​

  • Was it pushed to a watched branch? Only branches the project watches are synced. The admin page lists them.
  • Is it in the English file? The editor reads the project's English file, not the code.
  • Can the editor read the repo? If the admin page shows Can't read the repo, the repo or English file setting is wrong, or the editor's access doesn't cover that repository.
  • Was the push missed? If the editor couldn't receive pushes for a while, an admin can Sync the branch by hand.

A string shows in English on the Irish site​

  • It isn't translated yet. Check its status in the editor.
  • The English changed. The Irish was written for older English, so it isn't used for the new English until a translator updates or keeps it. Look for it under To do as English changed.
  • It isn't published yet. See below.

Saved Irish isn't on the site​

  • The app builds its Irish in. Saved Irish only reaches the site on the next deploy of that branch. Use Publish, and wait for the deploy to finish.
  • You're looking at a different branch's site. Each site shows its own branch. Publish the branch for that site.
  • The English differs on that branch. Irish is only used where the English is identical to what was translated.
  • Your browser has an old copy. Reload the page.

A deploy failed while getting the Irish​

The build couldn't reach the editor, so it stopped rather than deploy a site without Irish. The live site is unchanged. Run the deploy again once the editor is reachable.

The live preview says "Not connected"​

  • The app isn't set up for the preview. It needs the @abair/i18n connection. See Preparing the App.
  • The site refuses to be framed. Its headers must allow https://translations.abair.ie and not send X-Frame-Options.
  • The site isn't served over https.
  • The page needs a sign-in. Sign in to that app in the same browser, then reload the preview.

Picking a string finds nothing​

  • The string isn't in the editor yet. It may have been added after the branch's last sync.
  • The text isn't translated text. Only text that comes from the English file can be picked.

Admins can see each project's status on the admin page, with the exact error on hover. The technical setup is described in the translations-editor repository's docs/ folder.
